Got a problem and seeking some troubleshooting assistance:

When i boot my laptop everything seems to start but the screen remains blank. Nothing will come up. I have taken it apart several times to make sure everything was connected and reaplied arctic silver to the cpu and vga. I know my way around the computer so any advice would be appreciated.

sounds like it's not posting. could be a memory issue. also try it with no other devices, no hdd, no optical drive, no wireless, no modem, etc. if just the mainboard, cpu, and 1 stick of memory don't work then it could be the mainboard.

Thanks, i have done all this and still not post. I have also tried it on an external monitor and still no picture.
What can i do to tell if its my mobo or vid card thats died?

Is there another acer motherboard that is interchangeable with this model?
I have also seen mobility x700 chips on ebay, are these replaceable on this laptop?? I have taken it apart many times and it looks like its made into the mobo?

Unless you have the delicate electronic soldering tools, the vid chip (GPU) is not readily replaceable unless you replace the whole motherboard. There are very few laptops which have replaceable GPU's

So are you saying the gpu IS replaceable? If so, It would be much cheaper to buy a replacement from ebay and take it somewhere to have it replaced than to shell out $400 for a new mobo.

unless that place has a bga machine, it would not be replaceable. you can send off your mainboard and someone may be able to repair it, however I don't know any reputable places.

if you are looking to do the repair yourself, you would be better off replacing the mainboard.

What I guess I was trying to get across, was that very few models/brands have any that have replaceable GPU's. I know of one model off hand in the Toshiba line and that was an old 5105 model. It may very well be that in a few years, GPU's will be easily replaced in laptops, but I doubt it. The money is made in laptop replacements, not part replacements

Any updates to this? I'm having the exact same issue. Replaced the Mobo once before. Fairly certain it's GPU related. Took apart the laptop and could not find any burns, etc. Not sure it's viable anymore to replace the mainboard. Better to buy new?
