Dell Studio 15 HD video editing?

Hi,

Sorry if this question has already been posted. Anyway, I've got a relatively new Dell Studio 1535 laptop w/ a 2.16/2.17ghz processor and 3gb of RAM. I'd like to do some AVCHD video editing from my Canon HF10 camcorder. Most HD video editing programs call for at least a 2.4ghz processore (w/ 2gb of RAM whereas I have 3gb). My question: has anyone w/ this laptop tried doing any HD video editing/DVD creating? If so, what program was used, was the video HD?, and what were the results???

My main concern is the lack of processing speed to properly run an HD video editing program.

If anyone has any input then please let me know...

Thanks,

Moving to Audio/Video for possibility of more inputs

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't run any program with the specs you mentioned and the requirements you mention. It may run them slower, but probably not to much in the grand scheme of things. The more important requirement will be to make certain that whatever video editing program you use supports AVCHD, but most should by now I think.

Seablade,

Thanks for the response. Yes, the program I potentially intend on using does support AVCHD. My concern was the possibility of constant errors when editing/creating HD DVDs because of the 'technically-speaking' incompatible processor speed. Again, thanks a lot for the response!

id bet it would run just fine, my guess is the processor speed is in terms of Pentium 4 processor clock speed, not the more power-at-lower-clock-speed processor architectures we have now

Anaconda,

Thanks for the response. The specific program I'm referring to is Pinnacle Studio Plus Version 12 which does specifically specify the following processor requirements:

Windows® XP SP2 (SP3), Windows Vista™ (SP1) Intel® Pentium® or AMD Athlon™ 1.8 GHz (2.4 GHz or higher recommended)
Intel Pentium HT or AMD Athlon 2.4 GHz or 1.6 GHz Dual core required for Windows Vista
- Intel® Core™2 Duo 2.4 GHz or higher required for 1440x1080 AVCHD editing
- Intel® Core™2 Quad 2.66 GHz or higher required for 1920x1080 AVCHD editing
I think I'm going to go ahead and give it a shot anyway. I can always return the s/w to Bestbuy for store credit anyway (which for me is like credit for a kid in a candy store :-) ).

Thanks,

You can probably download a 20 day demo of it to find out.
