reinstall windows Xp - default

Thread Starter
I have this acer aspire 5100 laptop, it came from factory with Windows Xp media center. Later, i've updated to vista, but now i would like to go back to Xp...
I've heard about this OEM partition that keeps the originalsl files, i was wondering if i could reinstal the original OS from this OEM thing, since i don't have any backup, or recovery cd provided by acer...

So, is that possible to do this ?!
I appreciate any help.

try performing alt-F10 key combo before windows loads but after post. if the recovery partition is still intact, it should launch the acer erecovery program. However, since you loaded vista from dvd onto the unit, it changed the bootmanager from ntldr to bootmgr/BCD. most likely, you will need to call acer and get the recovery cd's

I quote the advice given me by Acer

"you will need to launch the Disk2Disk recovery feature (which should be supported by your machine). This can be initiated by pressing ALT + F10 when the computer is first switched on. You will need to hold down ALT as soon as the Acer splash screen appears, and repeatedly press F10. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts. The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs. This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine. If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process."

and the best of luck
