hp dv6605us won't get pass HP screen with dvd installed

I am having a major problem with my hp laptop. It is a hp dv6605us and I can't get into the bios or pass the hp screen with the dvd drive installed. When I pull the dvd drive out it boots just fine. I bought a new dvd drive because I thought that that might have gone bad but the new drive has the same problem. I update the bios and drivers and still no go. Any help would be great.
THanks

You get the same problem as your old combo drive, the hang up possibly is caused by motherboard.
If your old dvd drive can be tested in another laptop and it works, you can be positive that the problem is not from the dvd drive.

The boot process is as follows:
  1. The ROM BIOS executes.
  2. The HP or Compaq logo splash screen displays.
  3. The Microsoft Windows logo splash screen displays.
  4. The Welcome to Windows login screen displays.
BIOS: Basic Input Output System. If a device has problem, the system may hang at the logo screen.

If I put the dvd drive in after it boots up to vista it detects the drive. So I don't know why it is hanging up on the bios screen if I have the dvd drive in to start with.

An update. If I just leave my notebook on with the dvd drive in it takes it about 3 to 5 minutes to past the bios screen. So I guess it will boot up into windows if I leave it on long enough. But when I get into windows I can't get it to detect the dvd drive. I did delete the lower and upper thing in the reg and I have removed it and then put it back in and I have gone to the device manager to scan for hardware changes and still nothing. Any other ideas out there?
Thanks

Start > right click my computer > manage
Click disk management
On the window on the bottom right, find the DVD drive, right click on where it says something like CD-ROM 0, hit change drive letters and paths. Hit change and assign it a letter, then reboot. It may work for some cases that a DVD drive is not detected in windows.
