#268 HP Quick Play 2.0 WeAreNotAlone Help

While back, looks like user "WeAreNotAlone" has solution to my recover reinstall of Quick Play on dv8301nr with 2-each 80gb hard drives, posted o5-25-06, #268 under HP Notebook Forums, HP notebooks, HP's Quick Play v2.0.

Fix was to remove or re-size the extended (logical) partition to allow totally free, unpartitioned space at the end of the drive.... Then run the QP v2.0 installer...

How do I do this?

I wiped both hard drives (after getting frustrated), Put in HP's Windows XP recovery DVD (that I ordered from HP specific to my dv8301nr) and subtracted 1024 from available (but ended up with 1020, somehow?), then installed HP's Application and Programs DVD, and, after long online chat with HP live help, installed their update for installing Quick Play. But i still get Error 2147418113 Quick Play Componnent Move Data error. How do I remove or re-size this logical partition thing-a-ma-jig? Thanks.

By rhe way, new here. Looks like lots of good info. Have 2-each HP laptops, and one HP desktop. In past, have bought, new, 3-HP desktops, and these current used laptops. I like HP, most of the time

ghn, The thread you referenced is where I found that the problem can be fixed. My question is "how?"

How do I remove or re-size the extended (logical) partition

I cannot find "how" to do this in thread. Need more input

(Briefly, again, mine has the 2-hard drives. Do I take one out? Is there some special program I download and use? If so, what do I do with the program? Etc.? Etc.?)

OK, thanks. Will try The Elder Geek one. In past, used PC rescue, but,for me, not very Lynx literate, it will only boot PC one time. Then, second time around, it never works. I got to make new copy on CD, and it will work, one time, again.

Was only wanting to reformat. PC Recover did not work.Had got a copy of Nuke, and put that in. Next thing I realized, I had selected "Autonuke" and lost everything on both drives. Laptop bought used off Ebay, some 3 or 4 months ago, and Quick Play has never worked. Ordered set of Recovery discx from HP. Drive c: had XP Pro, which I wanted to keep. And had been trying to recover on drive E: (second hard drive).

But since Nuke went its full course (XP Pro gone) now trying to set up on C;, like when new. Will look to see if unpartitioned section is....whatever they were talking about, and then select......something or another ....to screw it all up more. I sure wish I knew more. Thanks

OK, after gillion other tries, back to point where, with laptop off, press DVD QP button, HP logo comes up, says its loading Quick Play, then blank, black screen. NOTHING else happens. Press power button for 5-seconds to turn it off. Over and over again, this is all I get. Please help, Pretty Please

Saw in HP's instructions where I needed InterVideo WinDVD Player. So, finally found one for my laptop and installed. Really thought it might work. But, nope. Says its loading, and then goes blank, freezes. What can it be?

Is anyone out there? Hello! Still lookinf for help. Been wondering, seems instructions at HP web site says to put in Quick Play recover disk, turn off laptop, and then turn back on, that Quick Play will then install. My disk will not start up, as if boot disk of somesort. Mine will only run after Windows full loaded. Is this where my problem is? When you turn back on laptop, with disk already in, is something other than Windows loading supposed to hoppen? My didk maybe bad or not right one from HP? Wish someone, who has got theirs to work, help me. Thanks
