Good day, notebook people!
I'm a noob to this site and somewhat to laptop tech in general, so I thought I'd ask some advice from you gurus. Here's the system I'm looking at picking up:
Sager NP2096
Intel® T5800 "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.0GHz w/2MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
4,096MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
nVidia GeForce 9600M GT 512MB PCI-Express DDR2 DX10
15.4" WXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1280x800)
Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive
Intel® PRO/Wireless 5100 802.11 a/g/n
Internal Bluetooth + EDR
Internal 3-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS)
2.0 Megapixel Camera
Smart Li-ion Battery (9-Cell)
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
Standard Dead Pixel Policy
1 Year Parts & Labor, Lifetime Sager Toll Free Tech Support
$807 from XoticPC. My questions are thus:
1) I'm considering upgrading the processor to Intel® P8400 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.26GHz w/3MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB 25 watt. Do you think I'd see enough of a performance improvement to warrant the extra 95 bucks?
2) I understand that some components (the nVidia 9600, 7200rpm HD) may run a bit hot... given that I've configured this myself, have I put a system together that's prone to fry itself?
I'm mostly a general-purpose user; I do plan on some gaming, but I'm obviously not looking for a dedicated super-powered rig. Thanks in advance for any help!
