When you go to print, is the printer that's connected also selected as the printer the computer is going to print to? If you have installed more than one printer on your computer, the computer might be trying to print to the other printer by default.

ok, so this is kind of weird, but for some reason, every time i turned on my printer, it would create another name (or copy) for the printer, so i technically have a total of "8 printers" now, but i always use the 8th one because that is the only one that actually works. the others will not work. I am using hp, and this is the only printer that i have connected to my computer currently.

Is this an USB printer by any chance? If yes, you can try to leave the printer on and connected, or turning it on before connecting to your USB port

Not bad of an idea, but follow carefully the installation instruction. HP printers are a pain to set up (speaking from personal experiences). Also try not using the printer over a hub.

what do you mean by "over a hub"?

Usb hub: the dingy that expands one usb port on your comp to multi USB ports. Extension/expansion cord analogy.
