Works great on my Asus Eee PC 1000H, seems like Microsoft finally reacts to all the criticism on Vista

Buddy has two veloci in raid and still only got 6 (but that is on the older intel 975 chipset). Guess that means we have to pick up some ssd's or what? Eh it's a beta, but runs great so far. I'm sure drivers will help out down the road too.
I also get a zero in Vantage and a 2.5 hdd score, but thats not on my raid0 raptorX's

It's still a beta remember.

Full size

Loving it though.

Cool - Win 7 found and installed drivers for my printer (Canon PIXMA iP4500) without needing the install disc.

Hmmm.. so dxdiag says Win 7 is using DirectX 11. I read an article about it (only about 1/4 of which I understood) but can't find any real-world comparisons. Is there anything out yet that even uses DirectX 11?

only tech demos in the DirectX SDK, which only added it as a Technical Preview in the November SDK. I dont think theres any DX11 hardware currently, so all that runs on a emulated device currently

The first hiccup - after an unsuccessful update of the webcam driver and playing around with some registry cleaner (Wise Cleaner), I had to re-install the whole caboodle!

Lesson learned: stay away from these registry cleaning tool on this beta version

32bits W7 installed with no fluke, all devices being recognised :-)

lol thats why you dont use "registry cleaner" software in the first place

been good for me... my keyboard and mouse not working every other boot problem even went away!

well you know, I just wanted to test out everything that is related with Windows tweaking.

I am slowly thinking that Microsoft is following the path of OS X with W7. "Encapsulated OS, it works great, don't mess with it" motto

Is this worth getting? From the few things I've read, this isn't a worthwhile upgrade with the stage that W7 is in. I've currently got Vista 64 installed and have taken a real liking to it coming from XP Pro.
well it isnt a "worthwile upgrade", because its not to be used in that sense. its for testing purposes, and things can go wrong. if youre set up solid and dont want to risk it, you dont want to install windows 7.

^^ Agree, and if you want to play with it, I recommend getting another drive and start fresh. Don't bother with dual boot. This way it is much simpler to feel W7 out and not worry about messing up your current Vista.

I recommend staying/testing with W7 64bits on your machine.

W7 beta release is free to public.

I am not sure that the numbers of free licences (good through August2009) is still available though.

iPOD and W7 (from personal experience of Djembe)

. "It is amusing that whenever I plug in my iPod and I'm running Windows 7, the OS thinks Apple's iPod file system is messed up and offers to "fix" it. Somehow I get the feeling that if I took it up on the offer, my iPod would need more serious fixing."

. So - ignore the prompt peoples. The iPod is working just fine. Use the eject button in iTunes to safely remove it when it's done charging.

. My personal guess is that since all descriptive information is encrypted, Windows thinks it's messed up and wants to rearrange it correctly. However, I also would guess that since the encryption is Apple proprietary, allowing Windows to mess with it is likely to cause more problems than it fixes."

Anyone else with other peripheral devices hiccuping with W7?

was having 7 freak out on me earlier, trying to hook up my new monitor by HDMI to my 1530. bluescreened on me a couple times, with some randomly made up bluescreen (base 0x04354654).

Vista was giving me fits too (though not bluescreen), I think its just the nVidia drivers giving me crap

W7 is 4xbetter than Vista:

. "the feeling amongst Windows 7 beta testers is that Microsoft's new operating system is much improved. A pretty incredible 44% of the 68 corporate IT professionals surveyed -- almost half -- said they were "very satisfied" this time around"

. "A day after Microsoft revealed that it would make Windows 7 downgradeable all the way back to XP, a new poll suggests it's unlikely anyone will really want to do that. Apparently, Windows 7 is gaining popularity after all."
