well, you've got a 64-bit capable notebook, so you might as well try out the 64-bit version

that's my 2 cents worth of advice
Absolutely....64 bit is the only way to go.....

a few issues i'm having with 64-bit.

#1 i8kfangui driver not signed.
#2 no Quickset for x64 available for e1705

You'll just have to ignore any "driver not signed" warning they show you. There aren't any official drivers signed for Windows 7 yet, and drivers that are signed for Vista will still get that warning on Win 7.

Well you have a 64-bit processor and a 32-bit chipset. You will not get an increased cap on max RAM because of this. Anyway, 64-bit should still give you bigger registers. It should be said that I really know nothing about Windows 7 though.

I think Microsoft should work with Vista for a few more years before releasing a new O/S. I mean what is the point of a new O/S unless theres a major hardware change that requires it. All its going to do is make current PC software incompatable. Most people dont even know how to run Vista let alone XP. Doesnt make sense to me other than greed.

Based on my experience and what I've heard, Windows 7 is the antidote to Vista or it's what Vista should have been. It's got a lot of the same features and infrastructure but is faster and more user friendly.

Windows 7 = Windows Vista SP4

Windows 7 ran faster than Vista, but in the end my ATI drivers killed it, so I am back to running Xp x64 Bit OS.

ATI drivers seem buggy as hell,

Oh yeah, I had to manually install several drivers, as the Install.exe for some driver CDs did not reconize Windows 7 and failed to Autorun.

You can get Fangui to work, by hitting "F8" just before windows starts up, and sellect "use unsigned drivers" (or something like that) It is one of the choices at the bottom. Other than that, we need to get asigned version of the DLL file for it to work properly in Vista or Windows 7.

As to which to use, I would definetly go with 64bit, then get atleast 4gig of ram. (more if your laptop and pocketbook can take it.) It will run faster, as it can utilize more than the 3.whatever limit of 32 bit OSes.

I am currently using the 32 Bit beta on my Vostro, although I could have gone with the 64 bit. I did a direct upgrade from my Vista install and I didn't lose any of my settings etc. It detected my video card after the first set of updates. Running perfect so far.

ready driver plus & fangui v3.1 work flawlessly in vista x64

I'm staying away from all 7 betas, got the lappie running great now, dont want to to the dreaded reload

I would go with the 64 edition... I recently upgraded my Dell M1330 to 64 bit... couldnt be happier (4gbs of ram). I find it runs better!

Well runing 7 now 32 bit and I'm well impressed - even installed this on my dell mini 9 (runcore 64gig SDD so bit faster than bog std) and it also ran fine. Now have on my hybrid 9400 and basically all drivers load by default - have not had to install one driver video card driver downloaded and installed - OK this driver is not as fast as say the latest but everything is working by default. And it's snappy even ran well on the netbook.

Am currently (as in right now) downloading the 64 bit version for my new lappie (6400M with 3700M card).

Really this is what Vista should have been - have a copy of Vista Ultimate installed on 0 computers (yes 0 - thats how good Vista really is!!!)

Running W7 is best with what it comes with the package at the moment, as far as gpu concerns. Give it until, hopefully, the next update batch, giving ATI to submit the driver into W7 database, then it will be smoother.

And yes, 64Bits W7 is the way to go, in the beta stage.

cheers ...
