core 2 duo vs core 2 quad

Thread Starter
most of the recent problems of computer buyer is which processor they should buy. This has been brought by the performance of core 2 duo processor and its family and the core 2 quad. Both are good, but which one is better?

let's compare the two-quad core and core 2 duo with regard to price/performance ratio.
Prices (as of 8-2-08 in California):
E7200 at $120.
E8400 at $150.
Q6600 at $180.
Q9450 at $280.

the latest product released by intel is their quad core processor. It offers great quality but it's quite expensive compared to the core 2 duo. Many believe that as every competitor releases a new product, it's always better than the older one. This has have been always the case.

The e8400 performs quite better than the e7200. For gamers, it's not a problem. While playing multithreaded games with e7200 and 8400, you won't see any difference.they're really engineered well. Thus, they perform very very well as long as gaming is concerned.8400 may be 7% faster than the 7200,but you may Overclocked the 7200 to cope up with 8400 or even better. What makes it better is, $$$$.

it would go like this, a game requires 100%.the e7200 lets say-95% and e8400-100%.when both are overclocked, let's presume it would exceed a 100%- 101$ for e7200 and 106% for e8400.the 1% for the e7200 and 6% for e8400 are not that useful since a game would require a 100% only.So exceeding the limit isnt that needed.that's why gamers couldn't feel the difference.

I suggest, go for the 7200 and spend what you have saved for lets' say, Ram/Hard disk/video card.

how about the quad cores?

You might say, the one which is more expensive performs better.yes it's true, speaking of the performance. But the concern is, is 3-5% increase in performance worth the price?for me, it isn't.
comparing q6600 and 9450, i'd go for q6600 and overclock it. Again, save the Bucks $$$.

But which one is more worth it to buy?Is it the quad or core 2 duo?
the quad core may seem look better than core 2 duo since there are cores compared to the 2 or core 2 duo. However today's games don't need a 4-core processor. So,the 4 cores couldnt be used to its max potential.lets say 2 out of 4 cores only are used. But it's still wise to buy a quad core when speaking of the future technology.A few years from now, there might be applications or games that would require 4cores.But thats a long way to go. By that time, there will be newer models of quad cores.

in my own perspective, i'd go for the core 2 duo:
1st choice-e7200 $$$$ and performance(better if overclocked)overclocking makes it hotter, but get a good COOlER then everything will turn out fine.

2nd choice-e8400-reason why this is just my second choice behind e7200 written above.

3rd-q6600

4th-q9450

hope u learned something from me.

please have comments for this article. Thanks!

Quad Cores from Intel are coming down in price, I think mostly due to AMDs new Phenom Chip. They're apparently cutting prices to match...I think they're scared of AMDs high preformance yet cheap new cpu stealin' intel's thunder.

hi, core 2 duo is more popular then core 2 quad so i think i also go for the core 2 duo because it is also cheaper then core 2 quad.
