They just chose to target hardcore (w/ Alienware) and design (w/ Precision) for now.

And yeah, DDR3 is lower power but when you add LCD's, HD's, CPU's, and GPU's to the equation, the significance of the lower powered RAM is non-existant.

And a true shame at that.

I don't know. I like the precision because its pretty much the old school XPS series (XPS2 and M1710). I don't particularly like the M6400 but I'm sure I could get used to it unlike the M1730.

Well, at least for me, the precision models don't get the same discounts for students and alums. It was pretty much XPS or nada. I'd love to get a precision but not unless I can get the UCLA discount on it.

Is the school/university discount pretty much depending on the contracts with the manufacturers? Lenovo and Apple seem to be very active in this discounting type for students.

cheers ...

It is. Dell's been catching up slightly and we have our own rep who knows squat. Configured a $3300 m1730 to around $2600 with I think was 3 year warranty and $80 card.

Great package, when considering the warranty into it.

cheers ...
