should I choose asus over gigabyte or d other way around?
And what models of motherboard can you recommend for both ASUS and Gigabyte which are Sli-ready and of course cheap, about $100-120.

tnx.

moved to the desktop section.

Both Asus and Gigabyte are proven motherboard manufacturers. Asus really shines on their top-end $200-350 motherboards, but since you're going for more of a midrange model, either manufacturer should work fine for you.

i've built 3 systems (1 for myself, 2 for friends and family) in the last few months - 2 with asus mobos, 1 with gigabyte - both have been really good. the gigabyte system was the first non-asus mobo system i've built, and its bios was just as expansive and user-friendly as the asus ones. the layout of the board (aside from the connector for the front panel audio jacks, which is a very minor quibble) was superb.

both brands have decent models available in the pricepoint you mentioned; i'd recommend buying whatever you can find on sale, or with a good combo deal. like dj said, they're both good (and i believe we're both borderline asus fanboys)...

Could you tell us which processor you're planning on getting? It would help us a lot to narrow down to Intel or AMD.
