Hi Gamers,
I have a Dell XPS M170. The new Call of Duty World at War has never worked right. I cleaned the computer deleted all the other Call of Duty games. In stalled windows in. I was getting boot errors. I have never been able to play single player it just freezes. Any ideas! I been working on it for 3 weeks trying different things.

Check the game for patches first, also make sure that windows is updated and you have all the current drivers installed.

When you say the game freezes are you playing and it freezes, launching the game, at the menu, or load screen?

I find after I click on single player. The call of duty screen is in the far bottom right. Then I clicked on the screen then the screen went black for 3 mins. Then I clicked on new game ," The recruit". Then I clicked on Solo Campaign " New Game". The game apear to be froze. Then I waited a few minutes it then started to play the screen shots. Then the game was playing with the screen "black". I then started to click around the screen then it started the game.

Sounds like the problem might be with your gpu. Look at your graphics options. Are your graphics settings on high? If they are, then you might want to switch them to low or medium settings. And as darq suggested, you might want to update the gpu driver as well if you haven't done this yet.

The errors I get is:
1. Direct 3D Device 9: Present failed: Driver internal error
2. Direct X encountered an unrecoverable error. It would be great to get it fixed. Any ideas?

I'm assuming that you have the 7800 video card on your xps, what video driver version are you using currently? And what operating system? Is this the only game that you are having problems with?

Its COD 5 by the way. I personally couldn't get this game to run in Vista so I installed it on XP since I dual boot it wasn't a problem for me. Others have been able to run it on Vista without problem but I've heard many problems with this game and Vista and even when it does run some people get random crashes with it.

I'm not trying to turn this thread into a Vista trashing thread it's just that I've had this experience and it may prove helpful in troubleshooting your problems.

True. I'm running vista x64 and after installation, the game wouldn't load. I reinstalled and still the same problem. It wouldn't initialize. It took me a few hours of scouring the web to figure it out. My problem was the sound property. I have to switch from 24 bit 96000 hz to 24 bit 48000 hz. That took care of the problem.

I ran this on Vista 32bit no problems at all. I know there are issues but its not impossiable to run on vista.
