Firewire Port vs. Expresscard Firewire

Thread Starter
I am looking at purchasing one of 2 laptops.
The laptop I prefer does NOT have a firewire port, but it does have a expresscard slot, so I can buy a firewire card.

Is there any difference between using the native firewire port on one laptop vs. the expresscard firewire port on the other?
Thanks

For?

The main thing you will want, whether you go internal or expresscard,is to make sure you get a TI chip controlling the port. Beyond that, not to much difference other than the obvious losing access to the expresscard slot because it is full, and the ability to power FW devices, if the internal had that capability(Few laptops do)

Thanks for the response. It would be used for ingesting home video from a mini DV camcorder.
Could you explain what the TI chip does and how it would be obtained?
Thanks

TI as in made by Texas Instruments. Typically these are higher quality as corners are cut on some others, so it is just better to go with TI. However for home video I don't know it will make to much of a difference, but if you have a choice(Say you are going the expresscard route) go ahead and make sure you get a TI based solution just to make sure.
