Dell Studio 15 Notebook

Thread Starter
I haven't found much info about this notebook on this forum so I'm asking if it is a good buy.
These are the specs I'm buying:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5900
Windows Vista® Home Premium
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
8X Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
2GB2 Shared Dual Channel DDR2
250GB4 SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450
Dell 1397 Wireless-G Card

Are these good specs?
Should I upgrade to a more faster CPU like P8400 (is that Centrino 2?)
Should I go with 3GB of memory?
Also is the Dell Wireless-G Card good? Or should I get the
Intel WiFi Link 5100 802.11agn Half Mini-Card?

I'm not playing games like Crysis just maybe games like Sims 2.

Thanks in advance!

You really haven't given a good idea on exactly what your usage is going to be.... but I will attempt.

- CPU: the one you selected is fine for general use, office, web surfing, etc. If you want to game or use more intensive software, then going with a more powerful CPU would be better, but not essential. Technically, no, the P8400 is not Centrino 2... but it is part of it. Centrino refers to the entire platform (Intel CPU + Chipset + wireless card), so with the Dell wireless card you selected it would not actually be Centrino. But the CPU is from that generation, yes.
- Again, depends on your usage....
- Either choice of wireless card is good, you are unlikely to notice much difference between the two.

okay thanks for that!
SO what processor should I go for? I actually wanted to go for Centrino 2 since it is I guess faster and a newer system.
Is the T9300 good enough?

You still have not described what you want the system to do, what you will be using it for primarily...

In any case, was your first post a transposition error, did you mean processor was T9500 instead of T5900? Because the T9500 is quite powerful, but the T9300 you mentioned above is the better choice, you save about US$400 or so and only lose 100MHz. Either are more than powerful enough for the occasional gamer.

I'm planning to play games like Sims 2, Spore and some adventure games. You know those games that are point-and-click...
Also some multimedia applications like Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Also watch some movies in it.

It's supposed to be T9300. I'm sorry... I'm not anymore that good and updated with computers.
