Need a Laptop between $300-600 Canadian

Alright so my friend destroyed her old laptop, and is looking to buy a new one. I'm trying to help her find the best laptop she can get for under $600. Now I know I can't expect much for that price, but she mostly uses it for watching movies and browsing the net, so not a big deal; I just want to know she has something worth the money.

With that being said, could you guys recommend a few places I could check for decently priced laptops?

While she's not opposed to using those small 8.9" screens, she says she would prefer a larger screen if possible.

Thanks a lot.

honestly $300 wont buy you much, what it will get you is mostly old and used. if you are looking to buy a new machine dell is the best bet to come in around $600. likely will be a bit more but shouldnt be bad, and can get you a stripped out inspiron 13 which is what i would do with that budget

Hmm forgot about Dell. But so far the best deals seems to be from Futureshop, The Source, and Best Buy. Laptops there that fall under the $600 range some with up to 250GB HD, 2.0GHz Processor, and 3GB of RAM. That seems like a good setup for the price.

Just wondering if there's anything better. Here's a couple of links to some laptops I was looking at:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...&test_cookie=1

Here are the names in case the links don't work:
ACER EXTENSA EX5630-4228 LAPTOP COMPUTER
Acer 15.4" Laptop featuring Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile Processor T3200 (AS5730-4414) - Bilingual

acer is cheap yes... but they dont exactly have a great rep for quality. some people will get good ones others will end up in a mess.

really luck of the draw.

as much as i hate dell at the moment i would recommend them over acer still. currently the machine im on retails for around 700 cdn at futureshop/bestbuy... a great deal really for a capable toshiba. i am using it because i got it from my parents company since my dell died and i didnt want to buy a new machine for myself immediately.
