Does vista CD come with a new Notebook?

I recently bought an MSI notebook and I want to reinstall windows vista. Does the windows vista CD generaly come with notebooks? The tech guys from MSI said that the agreement contract with microsoft kept them from sending me the CD. Basicaly is he BSing me?

If the notebook came with Vista installed on it and an authentication code on the bottom, you bought a copy of Vista and should have access to the CD.

Quite often new systems come with just a recovery partition on the hard drive, and you are left to make your own recovery CD/DVD(s). An HP laptop I setup for someone awhile ago had a program to make the recovery DVDs listed somewhere in HP's support / update section (IIRC) on the start menu (don't remember exactly where, but it wasn't too hard to find).

If there is no recovery partition, there should be a recovery disk with the system or available from the manufacturer (perhaps with an extra charge).

I know that the MSI netbooks come with a copy of Windows if they have it preinstalled, so maybe all of their notebooks do. If you don't find any in the box, look for a recovery disc creation utility in the Programs menu. Either way, MSI should be able to send them to you if you call them.

The OS cd's are not worth anything without the COA Key. If you have the Key (sticker on the bottom of the laptop) I don't see why they wont give you one. If they wont help you out you could always find someone with the CD that matches your COA (eg Vista Home Premium, Home Basic) and use that with yourKey. Nothing shady or wrong with that as far as I know, you paid good money for that key.
