Is there any proformance gains to doing this? I just got a g50vt-x1 and it is set up that way and I want to remove it.

sorry no one answered you

If you're still around, partitions are a matter of personal preference. I prefer only using multiple partitions if I'm using multiple operating systems.

My Eee PC came with 160gb in to roughly 50% partitions. I don't have any problem with that. As they say. . . "if it ain't broke don't fix it. . . "
I got a good deal on a 500gb SATA 2.5 inch drive and used software to clone the existing drive to the new one. Then I swapped the drives and it's been great.

I've been looking for an article like this for quite some time now since I've previously researched about the same thing... yes, having multiple partitions does help in both performance and maintenance. Please check this site out: http://partition.radified.com/

Hope this helps!

Having a partition dedicated to your data will potentially help you recover it when the hard drive starts to fail.
