Gateway Model MA2A....Black Screen

hello ladies and gentlemen, im having problems with my laptop!
when i turn it on i get nothing but a black screen.. i mean, i see the screen getting some kind of lamp light but its completly black.
ive plugged it into an external monitor and the unit itself works.. so im thinking its the lcd.. now my question is, do i have to replace the whole lcd screen or is there a specific part that i have to buy to get back the image to display in my screen. any help would be very nice and very much appreciate it. thank you guys in advance

I recommend replacing the inverter first - cheap and easy - before looking into another lcd.

thanks for the reply qhn.. but how can i diagnose wether if its the inverter or the lcd itself? i have no faint images or anything.. not even with a flash light pointed to the lcd.. its pitch black.
where can i get cheap inverters for my model? thanks again.

I am not so an expert when determining if it is an inverter or the lcd itself - but the charlatan approach so far yielded a good 99% of success when pointing to the inverter for me, in these circumstances

Just plug in your model/brand in eBay or thenet - you will hit lots of offer for the inverter. Good lucks.
