Video Driver causes Blue screen at startup

Thread Starter
I own a m9750 with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX. 512mb.
I have installed windows again because of this, and right now IM using the computer with the standard vga video drivers because every time I install the card driver I get a blue screen before login in to windows. I am using the support disk the laptop came with, and I reinstall windows with the system restore cd that it also brought. I dont know what to do so if someone has an idea pleasee I would appreciate it a lot.

take your RAM out and boot with one stick at a time and vice versa to see if the RAM is causing the issue...

Try the driver order, if that doesn't work it sounds like your vid card may have died.

In Safe Mode and with vga drivers, the card only uses it's 2d engine. When windows starts (vista), you're using the 3d component on the video card, so it's not working. It might be the onboard vid memory, or the card itself.

I would get into the safe mode, and install the original vid card drivers you know worked, then try to reboot. If it won't work it's probably a hardware issue.

I'd call Alienware.

Im sorry I havent responded quickly, I just picked up my computer from the geek squad, they said it worked, which surprisely did for the 3 times I restarted my system over there, came back to my apt, restarted and boom, black screen.
I tried installing (again) the drivers in order after I reinstalled windows, and nothing changed. I just tried installing the first driver that came out for this card and it didnt work either. Geek squad did told me that its not a hardware issue, but honestly I dont think they know much. Im going to try calling alienware tomorrow, right now they are not open for tech support....I dont have a warranty though...it expired a couple of months ago (1y(stupid choice) warranty).

if its not the driver than i would most likely be a video card issue...

Could it be your house wiring? I know some people in the past have had issues with unstable voltage in their house wiring.

If it works at other locations, perhaps your house has a curse.

Heh, its not my house wiring...Ive done it here, at best buy, in Panama...same thing. But thank for the suggestion.
I talked with alienware and they told me to clean the card, and so I did ...it still didnt work.....I think my card may have died. This is disturbing, this computer has only a year. $3500 down the drain. Can't say it was worth it.
Next step is buy a new video card, but alienware doesnt have in stock, and I cant find one online....if someone has a suggestion please advice.

Thank you,

Aggie

Alienware should be able to order something for you, they still sell the m9750... Did they not offer to let you know when they get something that'll work in stock?

If that doesn't work, try contacting Iced-Tea (his forum nic) at mxm-upgrade. Iced-Tea used to come in here a lot and has helped others get vid cards for their systems, so he should be reliable.

If that doesn't work, try ztronics.com, or excelcomputerinc.com for parts.

I have to say I'm disappointed at Alienware's inability to keep parts in stock for their laptops, especially now that they're selling proprietary platforms that are difficult to buy parts elsewhere...
