qosmio g35-av650 video problem

Computer wont boot up with the nvidia driver in place. Can boot up with safe mode and in xga mode after driver is removed. There was a screen that occasionally popped up for 1 sec when attempting to boot up with the nvidia driver in place. This stated something about overheating and shutiing the system down. Rarely, after the computer was cold I could start it with the nvidia driver. Is this a video card problem or a problem with the thermal sensor for the video card? Toshiba is not much help other than to send the laptop in for motherboard replacement at exorbitant rates. Looking through the internet it seems there have been similar problems with other laptops such as the F15 and G15. Apparently there was a defective graphics card on those. Has anyone had this problem with the G35?

Have you tried with different driver versions?

The original driver that worked for 2 years was the one that stopped working. Reinstalling that driver or updated drivers caused the same problem.

The 7600 series nVidia card is a solid performer. I can only suggest backing up your system and clean reinstall the OS and see. Or if you do have a restore point to where it was before the non-bootable issue.

I just picked up a g35-av650 worked great for 2 days win/xp updated to sp3 now i get system dump page_fault in non_paged_memory backout the nvidia drivers and it's boots fine but now i can't watch DVD's etc. Has anybody found a fix for this? i've tried several nvidia drivers and each one causes a crash.

I would try running Ubuntu Linux and see if you get any issues. If you do, then you definitely have a hardware problem.

Ubuntu is free too
