So I chatted it up with a sales rep to see if they could cut me a deal of sorts on an alienware cause they gave me a nice one with the xps but he didn't offer shit.

But still I was looking at it this way. If i get a 3800 dollar laptop for 800 bucks out of my pocket then thats a steal.

We shall see.

Woodstock +rep for not holding back. jesse does it have to be AlienWare. More of bland styling but Clevo's have performance at good price.

I looked at Clevos site. To be honest it didn't convince me. I just want something I know will work for what I need it to. I know the Alienwares are pretty kick ass.
I must disagree here a bit. Clevo builds its own gaming machines way before Alienware. Maybe their models are not always attractive and the brand name is kinda blah, but they sure can play any games you throw at them.

cheers ...

I dont only play games. I use my laptop for work as well. I do 3d modeling for the video game industry. Currently working freelance again so this is a business expense again and not sure I want to risk it on someone I honestly have never heard of till now.

Just too risky imo...

Nah... Those dev cards have never been a benefit in my experience and they don't play games well. Probably just going with my gut...

http://computershopper.com/laptops/g...gaming-laptops

Between the Alienware M17x and Clevo M980NU, whichever ya like more.
I am still tickled over the remark of the Clevo:

"A gaming rig fueled by a quad-core CPU and powerful SLI graphics, the Clevo M980NU outpaced the field-leading Alienware M17x on most of our benchmark tests, but it came up short in terms of DirectX 10 performance. "

Exact same specs on both Clevo and m17X albeit the screen size, it would be nice it can tell us where the short is

That Sony at a fraction of a cost and be up there in the top 5 list is quite inviting.

cheers ...

I agree! I mean if your test bed gives anomalous results you as the tester need to determine why? I guess "computer shopper" just cashed the check from DeLL/AlienWare? Come on same set up. Also Clevo's are cheaper so their prices are crap.

I don't trust them as far as I can throw them.

jesse look at Sager's maybe from XoticPC. You want for business? Cool, flashing Alien eyes do not sell the deal. Next you have not heard of? No disrespect but pull your head from under the rock? Your statement is of greater insight upon yourself than Clevo/Sager being unknown. Take the risk? I think not.

Well I work in the video game industry. Having a laptop with glowing alien lights is the very least of my worries.

I'll look into Sager I just wasn't so sure about Clevo and besides I like the look of the Alienwares.

So got a call from Dell today. $3400 and some change for my refund. So now I wait until this is all said and done.

Not sure if I'll get the Alienware or not. For that cash I could get a cintiq and a pretty bad ass desktop. So we shall see..
2 to 1 (token pennies bet here ok ;-) that you won't even get to see that refund $$, according to what I read so far here and on other forums

Departing with cash is not something companies are willing to do with nowadays.

cheers ...
I hope that I never need a refund.
yeah, that refund system is retarded!!! you have to send in your pos first, and the wait for a month.... and if you purchased an extended warranty that will come separately sometime
post #117 of 133

Yeah thats not how they put it to me. I told them there was no way in hell that would fly. So we shall see. I'm not going to send in my laptop and not be refunded quickly. Thats just bullshit.

Well ****... Why does dell have to be such a giant piece of shit. Hell I can't even call without getting someone that I can't understand and I swear I have agreed to exchange my laptop for a hannah montana plastic hair clip.

Frustrations level going higher...
I've just been offered a refund or an Alienware replacement if I pay the difference in cost. No decision made yet.
