I'd love to join you in such a suit, but my location works against me this time.

They will use the opportunity/excuse to just stop supporting what's in the pipleline, and the customers will end up with peanuts. :-(

So what have you heard about the refunds? I don't see how it is legal to take back the product and not pay up.

You pay before delivery, so now you return the good before getting the money back ... That's the way it always has been with retailers.

cheers ...

it's also why you keep a copy of all the correspondence and tracking numbers

Oh i have every chat on file. I prefer to use the chat system and not the phone as things are much easier to keep track of and there is record of said items.

I'll be sure to keep a careful eye on everything and try and make sure I don't get f'd in the a on this deal

So UPS showed up yesterday with a packing slip. Dell didn't even provide a box to ship this thing back in. WTF! So I guess I'll just box it up as good as possible and send her in. I wiped the hard drive after backing everything up and did a fresh install of the software they sent me as well as replaced the stock ram.

I've been instructed to simply wrap it in bubblewrap.

I did buy one of those massive XPS backpacks with it. So I'll put it in that and then bubblewrap the lot.

However, I would have thought that Dell could send out a box.

it seems like dell's customer service is going down even more. i wonder Michael Dell is aware that this is happening, its a shame to let a company like dell go down the drain.

So thought I would drop by and let everyone know the update.

I moved as of December from Wisconsin to Iowa to take a new job and had not sent the laptop in yet due to the move and all the other holiday crap that went on. So finally everything is settled here I pack it all up and then get a letter from Dell.

They credited my dell account in full including back pay on what I paid for the laptop and and made good with the full refund promised. Pretty sweet but then they told me NOT to worry about sending in the laptop and apologized for all the troubles I had with it.

So now I have my money back and the laptop. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

wow, i didnt send in my laptop and they charged my dell account...

You wouldn't have gotten your refund if that'd been a Sager...

Were it me I'd go with the M17x R2 and a decent warranty and see how that treats you for a couple years. M6500 is also a good machine and supports 30bit output if that is helpful to you in your work.

Might be a lot of complaining to get there, but Dell is the only one sending out refunds or new systems at all. HP, Sony and others almost never ever do that kind of thing. To me that's a significant statement. Means it won't always be a perfect experience, but they'll go further than most to try and make it a satisfactory solution if it doesn't go well during ownership.

Just get that warranty. Can't stress that enough.

hey guys, I just joined this forum because of this thread. I'm a m1710 owner as well, and been having a hell load of troubles with it.

I purchased the laptop back in 2007, it ran flawless in the beginning, with games like BF2142 and NFS series, (all maxed graphics). Then it started overheating, randomly shutting down and finally fried the vid card. It was shipped to dell, fixed and shipped back within 2 days, that was really darn impressive i'd say.

After the repair things got better but soon going downhill again. It cannot handle the games it used to be able to, (i.e. BF2142 with max graphics), framerate drops like crayz after 15 min or so of play. I clean the heatsinks, fans and do fresh installations of OS periodically. I didn't pay much attention back then cuz of the school is too busy, using the crappy performance as limiting factor to control myself. Now i got time but it got even worse; framerate drops, keyboard messed up, media buttons messed up.... etc...

Guess my experience is way better compared to you guys' experience with this laptop, but I'm still so fed up with this laptop sometimes I wanted to stab the LCD with a screw driver, (cuz it always lags on the important and intense moments during game), which frustrated the crap outta me. And i got a feeling the vid card is gonna get fried again soon...

I'd like to know that to what extent the problems have to be, in order to get a replacement or something along the line. I don't want to send the damn laptop back and forth between me and dell, because I cannot afford down times with my laptop cuz of work and school.
