Connecting to an external Screen?

I somehow disconnected or broke something in my Inspiron 1150.
I was trying to clean my fan out.
I cracked it open & blew it out because I couldn't seem to completely opening it & then when I turned it on afterwards the screen did not come on yet you can see that the notebook is on.

So before I open it again, I'd like to connect it to an external screen & then copy everything onto an external hard drive before I mess anything else up.

You can connect it to an external display. Ought to be a workable port on the back of your laptop.

Yes I just looked on the back & then looked on my spare screen & see the matching port.
Do I just plug it in & it should work?
Is it that easy?

It should recognize it off the bat. Just first hold down the "Fn" key and press F8 and it'll pop up on the monitor.

So do I hold down both the "FN" & "F8" at the same time while its starting?
Or only if it dont work right away?

When it's starting just hold FN and press F8 numerous times (don't press on both at the same time, just FN first) until you see the screen on your monitor.

Well, it seems I might have bigger issues than I thought.
I can get the screen to start but as it comes on I get the windows did not open properly & gives possible reasons & then it gives me options & I tried starting windows normally & even in safe more & then it tries to open windows giving me the big windows logo page, but then it shuts down the screen.

& then I start pressing "FN" & taping "F8" & it will always start again at the Windows did not start properly screen again & this just keep happening over & over.

Definitely a bigger issue. There are roundabout ways to get your data on the external drive without using another screen. If you have a spare SATA or IDE cable and 2.5 to 3.5 HDD adapter, hook it up to a desktop like the master drive as a slave drive and backup your laptop drive on the external drive using the desktop's USB ports. It's more complicated and really should be done in person by someone who knows how to.

Yeah your probably right?
My girlfriend says maybe I could restart it with my boot disc?

Seems the laptop is making some strange noise though.

Worth a try with the boot disc but I doubt it'd work. The strange noise is probably the bad fan or an end-result of it.
