Can I upgrade from T5800 to P8600

Are this even compatible... will I have a better performance even with a PM965 chipset?

It's tricky upgrading to CPUs that have a faster bus speed than your chipset. What typically happens is the chipset lowers the clockspeed and bus speed of the CPU to match the highest FSB it knows. In other words, if you put the 2.4 Ghz P8600 with 1066 Mhz FSB in your 800 Mhz chipset, it will end up running at 1.8 Ghz and 800 Mhz FSB and giving you no benefit at all.

Instead, if you upgrade to a T9300, for instance, it's got the same bus speed as your chipset, so you wouldn't have a problem.
