This is the first time Alienware has ever done anything like this before. But for a limited time (while supplies last), if you spend $4000 or more on an Alienware Desktop (including QUICKSHIP) Alienware will also send you a free Alienware pre-configured Alienware Area-51 m9750 (shipping and taxes not included).

The specs of the m9750 are below.
  • Warranty: 1-Year AlienCare Onsite Service and 24/7 Toll-Free Phone Support
  • Operating System (Office software not included): Windows Vista® Home Premium with Service Pack 1
  • Notebook Tuners and Remotes: Without Media Center Remote Control or TV Tuner
  • Video/Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® Series - Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce®8700M GT - SLI Enabled
  • Chassis: 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology - Stealth Black
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB
  • Memory: 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 512MB
  • System Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 160GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection
  • Optical Drives: 8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW)
  • Wireless Network Card: Internal Intel® PRO Wireless 3945 a/b/g Mini-Card
  • Sound Card: Internal High-Definition Audio with Surround Sound

All I can say is... AWESOME! Go here to start configuring!

Maybe I'm cynical but it looks like they're just trying to get rid of they're SLI 8700's, T7600's, and 512 MB memory chips to me.

I'm sure they are (and that was my first thought as well), but for someone who's willing to spend 4 grand on one of their desktops, it's still a great "perk" to get a notebook for gaming on the go for no additional cost. Even if the buyers end up selling the notebook, it's still over a thousand dollar value, and spending 4 grand to get 5+ grand worth of stuff isn't a bad deal, if you've got the money and the inclination.

An eventual "imaginative" marketing gimmick - buy one get one free

Nice offer, regardless, if you have the dough, as Djembe mentioned.

cheers ...

Now where to find $4K? hmmmm

Maybe I can get some of that Bailout/Stimulus $

Save Your Money~

If you spend four thousand dollars on a desktop they ought to give you a laptop. Alienware has nice hardware and bling to boot, however, you can easily purchase a CLEVO or SAGER laptop for HALF the cost of an Alienware laptop. It is interesting to note that Alienware laptops are actually CLEVO laptops that have been customized to some extent for Alienware. Clevo is a large ODM as is Compal, Quanta, Asus to some extent and MSI. All of your boutique laptops (apple included) are really made by someone else and rebranded or customized to some extent. Save your money and buy a CLEVO.

actually, current Alienware notebooks are made by Arima, as I recall. While some Sager models were identical to some Alienware models, that is not true anymore.
