hp dv7-1245dx video problems

i need some help my dad bought a hp dv7-1245dx and he wants to use an eternal monitor for extened desktop but when u plug the monitor in and set it up for extened monitor the computer crashes. the video card is a ATI RADEON HD 3200 and it has hdmi and a vga connecters and we're using vga

Are you setting up both using same resolution? Refresh rate?

the laptop sceen reslotion is 1280x768 the external is at 1024x768 refresh rate for the laptop screen is 60 hertz but the external monitor is at 70 hertz it will run fine for 5 to 30 min before crashing

I would try first with the SAME 60 hertz refreshing rate on both monitors.

i could not change the refresh rate, but GOOD NEWS i got it working i had to download the newest catalysis control panel and i has been working since then
