Noob help needed for an NX500....

I did a system recovery on my laptop and now it doesn't recognize most hardware installed or it won't accept the drivers. I called Gateway last month and they told me my warranty expired so they couldn't help, well come to find out it expired on Jan. 13, 2009, their service is horrible. I downloaded the necessary drivers, or what their site tells me I need, but the my notebook won't accept them or says failure when I try to install going by their instructions. Under device manager the notebook doesn't list my wireless anymore or sound device, etc.... It seems like a blank notebook with just windows, there is no sign of any other app. that I had when I purchased the notebook. Does anyone have any experience with this problem that could help me out? Thanks!

XP.... I was able to get the wireless and Ethernet loaded but it is acting up with the wireless. Also I am assuming the boot drive is malfunctioning bc it doesn't always boot up correctly.

How about just performing a clean install all over/together? Drivers should be available at Gateway support site.
