Looking into getting a Sager.....

Thread Starter
So I'm getting ready to replace my 3 year old Dell XPS M170. It's about time to replace it and I've decided to stay away from Dell this time around. I have had some issues with this laptop with overheating and some other things that I think are not designed very well. I've had them replace the motherboard, fans twice, and the gpu twice.

After doing some research I think I've decided on a sager. Here's the link to the base specs I'm considering going with. There a few options like ram, 1900x1200 and a bit more powerful processor I'd be upping but this is the base I'd be starting with.

I was wondering about a few things. First is the warranty and how they handle repairs. If anyone could share some experiences with that it'd be great. I am in no way dissatisfied with Dell's service in this regard I would just prefer not to have to have them come to repair various components of my computer every 6 months. Just wondering how people's experiences with Sager have been.

Second thing I'd like some opinions on. I was thinking of downsizing to the 15" size due to cost and weight. I'm hesitant because I don't know if I want to give up the 2 inches of screen size. Any opinions on this would be much appreciated.

I'm on my second Sager and both have been very reliable so I can't comment on technical support. I recommend using a Vendor that offers their own technical support to purchase the Sager.

Just like any other manufacturer, I've heard good and bad about support but the bottom line is that Sager has been around for a long time and they are there. I will likely buy from them again in the future.

As far as screen size that's a personal choice, can't help you there. I lugged a 17" 5720 computer around for nearly three years and never regretted it. Now I lug a 17" 9262 around so I'm probably not the one to ask. ;-)

Sager is located in southern California. If your Sager will need repairs, you have to either mail it to them or drop it off. They will pay for shipping if you insist. I have had to send in two notebooks for repair, and I ordered a part from them to be shipped to me. They were prompt each time and the repairs were done right the first time.

I am in the same boat you are in, looking at the latest refresh of dell inspirons and XPS I find their quality leaving much to be desired over the previous generation of xps and inspirons now the the precision line has also refreshed forcing me to look elsewhere for a quality built laptop. My search has also led me to SAGER which is based on a CLEVO chassis and often used by Alienware and other high end boutique laptop OEM's. As for giving up two inches of screen size? I wouldn't even consider it especially with High Def.
I will be purchasing one very soon.
