No Power M-6750

This Gateway is out of warranty (figures) and I was told to send it in to Tier 2 support at Gateway to get it fixed for a price. Thinking the price to fix this refurbished unit may be the same as buying a new one, I'm asking for a genius who can help direct my efforts.

I tried the usual tricks Gateway recommends, and nothing works. Still no power at all.

Before I start unscrewing things, I have to ask for advice. What should I unscrew if anything? What should I look for?

"no power" is quite a general statement. Can you expnad this a bit more? Battery dead? Ac no go? Lights? Beeps? ...

But if you are still on the un-screwing part, then ususally lcd first, then bottom screws

"No Power" means there is no power from the battery and no power from AC. Everything Gateway said I did with zero results. Still no power. Yes. I cannot even turn it on, with or without the battery, with or without the AC adapter.

The last missive from Gateway:
"If the issue still persists, your system nay need to be send in our repair depot.

I recommend that you contact our Level 2 support at 1-408-273-0808. Out of warranty services for Gateway notebook computers are handled by our Level 2 support. They are also the one that provides cost estimates and turnaround time. You will need to inform them that you need a level 2 support and want to have an out of warranty repair for the notebook."

Before that, they said:

"Try the steps below for a power reset, to eliminate a hardware problem with your notebook:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds then release it. (You will not see anything happen)

4. Connect the AC Adapter to the laptop. Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in.

5. Turn the computer on as normal.

6. Once Windows boots, insert the battery."

Those steps did nothing. There are no lit leds when pushing on the power button.

. Is your ac adapter led on when plugged in? No, how about trying another adapter.

. Is there any leds on the panel when battery and/or ac adpater plugged in? No, how about wiggling gently the connector and see if any changes.

. Have you tried with another adapter or battery?

cheers ...
