I need a new PDA phone. Stay w/ windows moblie platform or go for Blackberry?

i currently have a htc tytn (aka cingular 8525, iirc). it's about time for a new pda/phone. i'm debating btwn sticking w/ a windows mobile phone or going w/ a blackberry (bold specifically, maybe). seems like either windows mobile or the sync program will act up monthly - it'd be nice to have rock solid performance and syncing - being a solo practitioner means every minute wasted on f@@kwoostering w/ making technology work is a minute less i can bill clients - still working on how to bill clients for this. i use outlook for my email and docketing (calendaring), but i'm not necessarily tied to it. i have email through my website as well as a gmail and hotmail accounts. afaik, either platform will sync w/ my client tracking software (i need to use it more).

any pros/cons for either platform i should know about? i'm familiar w/ windows mobile 5.0, but it's not as solid as it should be. suggestions on specific phones? i'm w/ att, so i'm not unlimited on which phone i can get.

my use, more or less, in order of most to least: returning calls to clients while on the road; docketing appointments, hearings, trials, deadlines, etc.; emailing clients and secretary; looking up statutes, case law, phone numbers on the web; some, really minimal, document review; looking up directions; camera/video minimal use; listening to podcasts some use; ebooks very minimal use.

I have never had problems with Blackberry software, but I do prefer Windows mobile.

Customize, not locked down as much. Also with blackberry you are locked into RIM.

Not yet experienced with a Blackberry, but Windows Mobile and Symbian serve me well so far.

I say stick with what you have. Better to have something crappy that you know all about than to test the waters of something new.

Windows Mobile and Symbian have lots more applications and options, but if you wish to stay with something you know go for it.

I have gone through the Blackberry 8200, the current Curve, the Bold, and now will probably get the new Curve (which I have read is stellar).

If you're doing serious business, nothing better than Blackberry. More secure than Windows Mobile and, ironically, interfaces better with Outlook.

I'm a windows mobile guy, but I would recommend blackberry for business. Windows freezes up a lot more and in general is a much less reliable mobile os. I'd trade my Q in for a Bold, but verizon doesn't offer it. I'd get a storm, but I'm not sure I'm that big on the touch screen interface over the qwerty keyboard.

which new curve? out of the blackberries you've had is there one you preferred or features that are must have and others you could've done w/o?

how does it interface better w/ outlook?

guess i should have mentioned this in my first post, but one thing i've grown to dislike is the software keys to dial. i'd much rather have the hard keys on the front of the phone. thus i'll be avoiding the storm.

I've had a Q and honestly it sucked compared to my bberry 8830.

However, what makes bberry great is enterprise/exchange server support. That way if your assistant makes a change to your calendar from your office while you are in court *boom* it immediately appears on your calendar. I love that and use it daily for appts and such when I'm on the road.

Also, my Q froze on me all the freaking time. 8830 has frozen once in the couple years I've had it. Bberries interface very well w/ BT headsets. My Q sucked at that. Jawbone 2 FTW, despite the crap battery life.

If you can make it have push style automatic sync w/ your calendar, then I would go bberry. No camera. Browser sucks. Ballbreaker gets old pretty fast b/c 95% of the time you die on lvl 16. Not very good as a toy.

Stellar as a tool though. If you need phone, handfree, email and calendar then I think it's worth it.

i would vote for the 8830 as well... its the blackberry i use and love. prettymuch the only thing that could tempt me away would be an iphone but up here the cost is stupid.

if you are looking for rock solid reliability (the blackberry storm aside) RIM is your manufacturer. yes the apps are more limited but they will for sure work, and the hardware/software plays very nice with what it is meant to play with as IG pointed out.

all in all i would have no problem suggesting it, go blackberry man.

I use a BlackBerry Bold..

the syncing works flawlessly... I never miss an appointment unless I want to...

I second or third the Moto Q sucking ass. I have it right now and hate the damn phone. Freeze's, lose's network, sync issues that I have never ran into on any other windows mobile phone. After this one and the Moto Razer I am never going to buy a motorla product again.

I liked the Bold, but I found it to be too big for the jacket pocket on my suit. The current Curve is good, and the new Curve looks to have all of the good features of the Bold , and its sleek look. Plus, it has similar dimensions to the current Curve, and may even be slightly thinner.

yeah.. the Bold is pretty big.. but carrying it is worth it for me..

I'd never use a touchscreen smart phone btw.. I -need- a qwerty keyboard.. I also need a phone capable of connecting remotely to my desktop so that I can keep an eye on stock movements and be able to buy/sell from anywhere..
