Your original question was

hi all
i've hp dv2401tu and i got PREINSTALLED VISTA with this and same model is avalable with xp also. i want to create the recovery discs with xp. is it possible in any manner ?? plz help me
And my answer was
Quote:
NO!!! You can not make XP recovery disks if your system came pre installed with Vista. You can only make the Vista Recovery Disks!!!.
You can make the vista recovery disks from within a XP environment by connecting the hard drive to a XP machine and run the recovery disk creator from the vista drive provided the recovery disks have not been created before or if the drive has a password set.
If the drive password has been set you must first unlock the drive.
If the recovery disks have been made previously you must purchase them from HP by providing the model number build number and serial number.

I thought you said in your Pm's that you worked for HP/Compaq tech support in India.
You should know this....
You did not say anything about changing the Software Build you asked about making XP recovery disks from a system with Vista pre-installed and the answer is still NO!!!
You can't make XP recovery disks from Vista!!!
You did not ask about changing the Software build tag.
In order to change the pre-installed OS from Vista to XP, you need to change the Software Build tattoo in the bios to match the recovery image and re-image the drive and re-seal.

Oh! And the HP/Compaq Recovery Disk Creator only allows the end user to Create one instance of the Recovery Disk...

Seeing how you work for HP/Compaq and have HP/Compaq training, you should have all this information at your fingertips and not need to go outside the company to a 3rd party forum to obtain it.

I was only a HP Certified Service Technician that worked for Futureshop performing Warranty Service and Support and had all these Resources available to me. Now that I am disabled and can no longer work I no longer have access to these Resources, that's why i came here looking for the tattoo utility, that another member here was so unwilling to share. even though he did not have the password. Fortunately I was able to obtain it from a friend that manages the HP/Compaq desktop support for a HP partner company.

I don't mind helping someone but please be honest....

I'm having the same problem. My HP Pav got trashed by BestBuy while they were trying to boot it up. They somehow deleted the recovery partition, and apparently tried to install XP home instead of XP MCE. I ordered recovery disks from HP which gives me the message "These PC recovery disks do NOT support this PC model" So...I got the MB and HD tattoo utilities, but don't have the PW to unlock. PLEASE!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
You issue should be taken up with Bestbuy or HP. If they are responsible for deleting your recover partition and the store you took it to is a HP warranty center and your system is under warranty then they are responsible to fix it. If they refuse then contact HP

I called BestBuy. They claim that they did nothing wrong. They said the HD crashed and to replace it would run approx. $300. (This was 3 months ago). I said not a chance. I found out later that the front side USB port shorted out, and by disconnecting it, the computer booted up, but with XP home instead of XP MCE. This tells me that they screwed up, but they won't admit it. As far as a new tattoo, they said they don't do it there, but will have to send it to HP for repair for $160 or so. I'll never buy or recommend HP or Compaq again. This is merely a racket so you'll have to pay them one way or another, either with overpriced service work or overpriced HP replacement parts. I'm done with them!

please

Is anyone sharing the system tattoo/DMI Flash utility? I really need a working copy.

pm me if you can help me out thanks!
Yes CP, you can download the DMI/HD utilities directly from HP just by registering as an authorized service provider (whether you are or not). You just provide some basic info, then it will provide a link to follow to the download page. HOWEVER...even when you download them, they'll be ZIP files which will require a password to unlock them. The PW can only be obtained from the "higher ups" at HP, and they're not giving it up (at least not without waterboarding).
However Yezok claims to have the PW, but apparently he's not sharing. We are just a few of many people stuck with a lame tattoo, and HP/Compaq doesn't care to help!

Doe's ANYBODY here have the PW for the HP-Tattoo and HDD-DMI utilities??? I have the programs from HP but can't unzip them without a PW. If not, how about any other utility for a HP desktop? I could email the files to whomever needs them but the file size is too big for most email servers.

Yezok. If you are willing to share I would greatly appreciate it. I downloaded a bios update from my mother board site and it not only messed up the bios but changed the tattoo information on my mother board. I ordered a new bios chip from biosman.com and had them to put the HP bios file on it. PC boots fine now. I still have to get the mother board tattooed. I've been unable to get ASUS or HP to help in this matter. My email address is ggrissett@atmc.net
Thanks in advance.

Hello I have tried to attach the bios tattoo utility and instructions but the server will not accept the file size.
Your file of 17.55 MB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 293.0 KB for this file type.
An Administrator will have to go into the Admin control panel and change the max size for rar files so I can upload for all to use.

Try using mediafire file hosting. It is free! And share the link.

Need to re-tattoo motherboard

I have purchased an HP Pavilion m9040n desktop not long ago, but am out of warranty.

During a thunderstorm, while I was powering down, the PC got hit.

When I was able to check for the damage the PC did not powered up and the light on the PSU was blinking.

I ended up replacing the motherboard and the CPU; now I am faced with the problem of re-tattooing the motherboard in order to restore my VISTA 32 bit OS.

Regardless if I try to power up from the hard drive or the recovery discs, the system goes thru a repair attempt and then fails to open Vista. I have talked to HP tech support and they told me that since I did not buy the motherboard through them that I need to tattoo this new motherboard.

This should not have been an awful ordeal since I have all the necessary information to upgrade the DMI tables; or at least should be easy to get help from either HP or their Authorized Dealers.

I found out the hard way that HP seems to be interested only on selling me hardware or new software; where the excuses of those Authorized dealers I have talked to are shameful to repeat. In addition the exorbitant price they ask for this apparently easy task for those who have the right software, it begs to consider buying a new computer instead.

After trying all the possible logical avenues I am hoping that some kind soul there is willing to share its experience and software to help me out.

I hope that someone can give me some help in re-tattooing my motherboard.

Thanks in advance.

I am very sorry, but you must buy a retail copy of VISTA 32 bit OS and reinstall, or buy the proper motherboard from HP.
What you are attempting to do is circumvent your OEM software Licensing Agreement. THIS IS CALLED PIRACY!!!
Read your the EULA (END-USER-LICENSING-AGREEMENT)
Your OEM copy of 32 bit Vista is licensed to run on the original motherboard that came with your
HP Pavilion m9040n desktop.

HP is the only one that can Tattoo your NON HP board.
