Should I remove extra shielding on NVidia 8600M ?

I just got a GeForce 8600M GS from MacRecycling to replace a burned out Go7600 in my Alienware M5500i-R3. Everything is working great except it is running a bit hot. 66c in 2d and as high as 104c running Portal at the highest settings.

I noticed two physical differences in the cards. ( See photo )
1. The GPU on the 8600 has a clear plastic sheet around it with a cutout for the actual GPU. The clear plastic sheet is hard to see in the photo.
2. The areas where the memory are located are covered by a foil shielding film. They cover the entire area and wrap around the sides of the card.

Should I keep the plastic sheet around the GPU ?
Should I use a copper plate + thermal paste vs the thermal pad ?
Should I remove the foil shielding ?
Should I just put it all back together and drink a beer ?

Thanks in advance.

Thats running too hot! Take off the plastic film as mine does not have that. I would also recommend the "Copper Plate and Thermal compound" You can always place the Thermal Pad on top of the Copper Plate as I have done.

I also explained briefly what I did here, have a looky: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread224244.html

I removed the foil and plastic and replaced the Thermal Pad with a 2cm X 2cm X 1mm copper plate. I am now getting 60c in 2d and about 75c max in 3d. Is this safe or do I need even more cooling ?

60-75 is much better than 104...

Those are massive drops. If you add the notebook cooler I suggested you should be looking at dropping at least another 5 degrees which would make the notebook run like a breeze...
