I thought about that too but would still need to find the individual keys.

No, I meant that you could manually use some sort of white ink or something on the keys.

My keyboard is broke too, I was wondering what you might think about getting the german version and pulling the keys out of my broken keyboard? Would the characters on the screen come up as German or would they be American?

No they'd be Bolivian...

It depends on the language you set at the language bar. And do not remove keys from the new keyboard. Just put a sticker or some sort of identifier to show its equivalent in UK keyboard(its the only appropriate approximation and only differs from the US by the placement of the Euro, pound and the backslash signs). Throw out your old keyboard entirely and then replace the whole thing with the new one coz the problem is likely more than just a few keys and might have to do with damaged components inside the keyboard.

Alienware just sold me a keyboard. Its being shipped to me.

This is after having to argue with the support lady for a few minutes after she told me 'sorry, we don't have any parts for that notebook in stock'.

Basically she told me that the m9700 has been 'offline' for over 1 1/2 years now, meaning they haven't sold any new ones in that time. She said that parts were stocked to a certain number and after the parts were sold, they didn't order anymore. Basically the parts were stocked and sold until there were no more and Alienware never ordered any more parts to sell as replacement parts.

She did say Alienware was 'working' on restocking parts for the m9700, but as of now they haven't been able to locate the parts themselves. So they are in the same boat as the customers as far as getting parts goes. They don't have access to them either apparently.

With that said, she put me on hold for about 10 minutes and talked to her manager who she and the manager looked for parts that would be compatible with the m9700.

She came back with news that she did have a keyboard in stock that was compatible. Im a little confused though, as first she told me it was $97.50, then after taking the order, she told me my total was $21.00... So Im not sure whats up with that yet. $21 seems pretty cheap for a new keyboard, but if thats what it is, I'll be happy with that.

I called Alienwares corporate office. I did not call their routing number that the reps here were giving me that were forwarding me to Dell's support. I just dialed 1-800-Alienware and wasn't going to take no for an answer.

Like I told her, I can get replacement parts from the dealership for cars made 40 years ago, I can get replacement parts for a television sold 40 years ago, there is no reason I shouldn't be able to get parts for a $4000 notebook sold 3 years ago.

Was yours $21.00 too? I was confused as they gave me two different quotes. First she told me $97, then she said $21 when she was doing the transaction.

Oh you know what? I think I misunderstood her. I think she said the keyboard that was compatible was the 'm9750'. Thats where I think I got the $97.50 from LMFAO.

I bought both my m9700 laptops from ebay, one to use and the other for parts. I got 1 of each replacement part. My advice is to buy a whole laptop from ebay and stash it deep in the closet for spare parts. My thought is that with new models out and Dell in the picture that there will soon be a shortage of all parts for these older models.
