Had it with dell's terrible support- replace my 1330 with a lenovo x301?

Thread Starter
I've just about had it with dells terrible cusomer service.
I've had the mobo replaced three times (third time will be this week), wireless card twice, and the screen three times. (with a replacement laptop sent somewhere in between all that). I love the 1330-- when it works-- but am really tired of always being out a laptop while waiting for their support.

I'm looking at the x301--- any thoughts? How bad is the integrated graphics?
I use this laptop exclsively for work--- lots of travel, so 13.3" screen is ideal (working on the plane, etc), and to watch the occasional DVD. But it will primarily be a road machine

Pound for pound, except for the video, it looks very similar to the 1330 (my dell has the LED screen, 64gig SSD, 4 gigs ram, 8600GS discrete video, t9500 c2duo processor) . How is the screen (currently have dells LED 13.3" on my 1330)? How does it handle abuse?

The last lenovo I had was a thinkpad r52 (typing on it right now, since my dell is fried). Love the keyboard, and the design is all solid. Are the new ones like that?

also, what kind of internal expansion does it have? I have a sprint broadband pci-x in my dell, which I would need to drop into the thinkpad (if that doesn't fit, it's a nonstarter for me-- I had USB devices, and I don't want to switch carriers).

Anyway, any other thoiughts would be appreciated.

Dont personally know about the X301, but the Lenovo integrated GPU is not bad for day-to-day works, minus gaming. Lenovo machines are in general tough and reliable comps, fitting for travelling.

cheers ...

I just got the X301, and it's a great little machine. Integrated video is fine for day to day Office & web apps, but you sure don't want to use it for any 3D apps!

Weight is amazing - I think this thing is actually lighter than the X200. Screen size is nice - good resolution, and it's sturdy as heck - this machine can easily survive daily travel.

It does have expansion for broadband, but not sure if it's minipci or what - I don't use it.

The nice thing about Lenovo is that they ARE sturdier and more reliable than Dell, but I'm sorry to say that their service is actually not as good as Dell. I *highly* recommend upgrading to the next day on site support from Lenovo, or you'll be shipping it back to them for repair. As of today, Lenovo doesn't offer a higher level of support than this, so even with their 'next day' service, I sometimes wait several days for a part to become available, esp. on newer machines.

Not that it helps you today, but for Dell machines I'd also recommend upgrading to the gold level support if you're using the machine for business. WAY better & faster support, ongoing issues like yours are taken care of by a single account rep, and next day service actually occurs the next day.
