Hi,

I just upgrade my E1705 wireless to Intel 4965 AGN. I also installed the third antenna, and my speed stays at only 54Mbps. The system recognized the third antenna. I have a D-Link DIR-655 N Draft wireless router and have confirm that other laptop with N type down load 300Mbps. I download the driver from Dell website, and the wireless work, but only at 54Mbps.

Am I missing something here?
Any suggestion or idea is much appreciated! Thanks!

Did you completely uninstall the old wireless card drivers

Are you connecting to the N signal or the A/G signal?

Check your settings for the wireless device

What are your Rx Signal levels ?

I found the following release note at Intel website regarding 4965AGN.. After changing the security setting as stated below I manage to get 130Mbps. It not any where near 300Mbps, but better than 54Mbps. Research online indicates that the 4965AGN can not utilize the full speed from my router D-Link DIR-655. My brother Macbook Pro was able to connect at 300Mbps. It has the wireless with Broadcom chipset, which is similar to the Dell 1500 series wireless card.... If you are planning to upgrade your wireless card, go with the Dell 1500 series. Don't use the 4965AGN if you are using D-Link router... Thank for all the help folks!!!

Operating in 802.11n Mode

Intel recommends using security with your wireless network. The Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN adapter can only achieve transfer rates greater than 54 Mbps on 802.11n connections when using AES security, or no security. You should only use no security when setting up or troubleshooting the network.
To enable AES for Personal Security, select WPA-Personal (AES-CCMP) or WPA2-Personal (AES-CCMP) in the Security Settings pull down menu. To enable AES for Enterprise Security, select AES-CCMP in the Data Encryption pull down menu.
