Won't stay on

I have a sony vaio laptop and my dog chewed through the power cord. I had my father in law who is an electrician soldder it back together. It worked just fine for a few weeks and now it seems not to hold a charge or reccognize that the charger is plugged in(the green light is on on the ac adapter). When i turn the machine on it tells me at the start up screen that I need to switch to plugged in mode even though it already is. And I also notice a slight buzzing noise coming from the laptop that goes away when I unplug the power cord. It will stay on for a few seconds, maybe a minute sometimes then powers off suddenly. Wondering if anyone knows what is wrong here ty for your help.

Even though your father in law may be a good electrician, wires can still get crossed and short. You need a new power cord.

Try to avoid third party ac adapters. You are better off getting one directly from Sony.
