Want to record on laptop with cooledit but can't!!

I have a toshiba m305d-s4831 laptop. I've used CoolEdit to edit music for years. Since getting this laptop, I've had a problem. I can't get Cooledit to record music internally. When I record, it just uses the microphone, which is of course, poor quality and includes outside sounds.

I've gone into the sound properties and the recording tab. The only choice is microphone. Ive tried right clicking and adding all disabled and disconnected devices, but nothing else shows up. From what I've read, I have to find a way for "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear" to show up but I don't know how to do that.

One site I found suggested to contact the manufacturer if this problem occurs with a laptop. I can't imagine Toshiba's customer service would be much help in this instance.

Thanks in advance!!

Nope they are actually right.

What you are trying to do is being prevented by a driver issue. The driver for the audio in your machine is not providing a capability to record what is going out of your speakers, the common use for the "Stereo Mix" functionality. You need to talk to the sound card manufacturer, in this case the laptop manufacturer is a good place to start as it is likely a built in sound card. Of course that doesn't mean you will get much help from them, I wouldn't hold my breath. The end result is you are likely screwed in that regards, sorry.

On Mac or Linux I could make some suggestions for audio routing programs that would negate this need, but sadly on Windows I don't know of any off hand.
