Broken Wireless Hardware Switch Fix - Page 3

Sucessfully fixed a Toshiba Satellite L500 1D0 with mini-pci-e (pin#20).

The card was located under the keyborad.

To take apart the keyborad i've followed this article:

Many thanks

hi guys!

I've a Sony Vaio vge-fe31m laptop, it has a external switch and the connection is interrupted constantly :( and I must to press it to switch on again.

The w-lan tarjet picutre is copied from VGN-FExx series Dissasembler Instruction document and to ask that the pin#20 is the indicated in it:

Searching the laptop features in the web, the wireless card is Intel "3945ABG PRO/Wireless Network Adapter".

Thanks again!

What of them inactive the wireless hardware switch?

For example, pin#20 (Mechanical key at bottom side) is "Reserved for future wireless disable signal (if needed)", can be it?

Thank you for your work!!

The whole thread concentrates on pin#20. So I suggest to give it a shot, or better still search for the pin out configuration of the wireless cards above and compare the description

It was sucessfull !! dance2.gif

I think that the pictures say everything, it is too easy, two considerations:

- it isn't necesary unattach the keyboard cable connector (even easier).

- I applied adhesive tape to pin#20

I just wanted to +1 on this great info! My girlfriend broke the switch on her old Gateway t1616 and so it was locked in the off position. I actually just cut off a little bit from the sticker on top of the card and put it on the the 2nd circuit on the bottom nearest the gap. After starting up it found my network again!

P.S. on the card it had a "17" on it so I thought that I would just count down until I got to 20 and patch that one but it failed to work. It really is the second from the right. I guess you have to follow the directions exactly haha.

Thanks you guys are amazing!

Amazing.  I've been trying to fix my mom's gateway W350I laptop for weeks.  I stumbled across this post and it worked!  I put a piece of electical tape over #20 on the mini pci-e.  I have basically no computer hardware knowledge and was able to follow the instructions easily.  Thanks!

Hi Guys, I am really sorry for refreshing the topic, but i have registered only to say, that IT WORKED! Thank you so, so much! I was trying to fix my girlfriends laptop for hours, tried everything i know, but i would never think of something like that. I was disassembling laptop for the first time in my life, and i worked perfectly! Her laptop is HP dv5-1020ew, it has a touch panel which was gone for a while already, but the wifi was still working. Few hours ago it turned off and honestly i went crazy, because this piece of crap is nothing but trouble since she bought it.

So thank you once again,

Adam & Paulina from Poland :)

I Tried this and it did not work. The laptop is a toshiba satellite A500 and the wireless card is a 1 wire type. Part # SPK-PK31000A10   lot# 0928V13A00952.

It looks the same as the other cards I see posted except it only has a 1 wire connection. Pin 20 does not work. Any ideas?

Bumping again.. :D

Like other people, i just wanted to thank you for the great help. I wasted whole afternoons tryng to fix that problem, but taping the 20th pin on the bottom side of the card was succcesful.

I' m also very surprised about how many people i saw while googling that have/had he same prolem. And most of the broken wireless switches was unfortunately ACERs (in fact i have an acer aspire 6930).

Thanks again and again, THAT WAS LIKE THE MOST HELPFUL AND RARE POST I EVAH SEEN

FANTASTIC information! I broke my laptop's keyboard and am using a USB one but I can't activate the wireless (formerly Fn+F2)... but this worked! I've been looking for an answer for WEEKS. (I've an Advent 7104)... THANK YOU, I was looking for a new laptop but I will squeeze more life out of this thanks to the "tape on Pin 13" trick. A tiny sliver of normal adhesive tape and my wireless is back!
