Dell Mini 10 Laptop/Notebook ... Finally

Well the long talked about Dell Mini 10 has finally popped up on Dell's website. Although you cannot configure anything yet on Dell's website, you can head over to QVC.com and pre-order one.

With 6.5 hours of battery life, this machine looks very impressive!

Yeah, that's the only thing that's holding me back from buying the Mini 9, even though it's on sale again for $199, it just seems too small. The release of the Mini 10 is probably the reason why the Mini 9 is on sale right now.

I like a 10-12 in screen, so Dell now has offerings in all "mini" sizes (9, 10, 12). Any idea on the price yet? I haven't checked the links.

Though I still do like the MSI Wind model 10-in., U100, I think it was...

Using one at the moment - and waiting to trade it in for the U1000 model.

cheers ...

The Mini 10 sounds very nice, but I'd definitely wait for the 720p (1366x768) screen option, and the GPS addon would be nice as well.

I noticed that there isn't any 802.11n support stock... isn't that kind of the norm for new machines these days? Occasionally Dell cheaps out in ways that are sad.

It is not so much that manufacturers don't want to offer 802.11n stock. It is just that the "n" dingy is not quite standardised yet (it is being slated for November 2009 "certification"), many have their own version what "n" does and supports - "Draft-N" so we say.

cheers ...

Was thinking of getting the Mini 9 earlier but this is intriguing.

The prices seem a little on the high side compared to other netbooks of similar configuration. The higher resolution screen will make it stand out but I'm betting that will push the price right out of the netbook market.

If only they could offer it with a Linux OS but I doupt we will ever see Dell do something like that.

Huh? Dell's been offering Linux with select notebooks for some time now. I'm unsure if it is (or will be) offered with the mini 10 though.

Check out the 10-Inch Netbook Faceoff before getting any netbook:

Looks nice, but I am still a fan of the 9" models as I don't seem to have a huge issue with the smaller keyboard and really like the increased portability. I have a 701 8G that I am finally upgrading and was hoping one of these newer and smaller cased 10" would do, but I got tired of waiting and picked up a 901 20G for only $250 new after rebate. That has a 6 cell battery, 802.11N and BT and the same resolution screen as all the shipping 10" units, and it is WAY less expensive. I am also going to swap out the SSD with one of the new fast(90/55) 64GB units and this machine should be pretty sweet, and all for about $400
