Hello, I am new to this forum and I am trying to decide what the best laptop to get is. There have prob been threads already started on this so anylinks would be most appreciated. I am looking for a top notch gaming laptop, as well as great for other things like recording piano music and burning CDs. What is the best laptop for me? Thanks!

Do you need battery life or not? Needing battery life will limit your choices.

How about your budget.... around how much is it.. 2500?

nope dont need battery power...just a desktop replacement laptop
my budget isnt much limited but i cant afford a voodoo...i can however afford an alienware

Well then you might want to go ahead and take a look at the Sager notebooks, made by Clevo, which you will be able to find at www.pctorque.com as well as at other places. A AW notebook does not compare to the top of the line sager notebooks. One you might want to consider is the 8790. This notebook is both less expensive than the AW and more powerful.

However, tell me... is weight a big concern? Around what weight would you be comfortabe with, if it is even a concern at all.

thanks for replying so quickly
ill look into the sagar notebooks
one thing about alienware though is im obsessed with the pretty colors! lol
weight isnt a big concern
also i will need financial help: does sagar offer that....i know alienware has good financing with their credit card

If music is your heart's desire, you might also want to look at DAWin. http://64.49.248.202/index.asp?PageA...ROD&ProdID=277

These are AMD 64 based machines, the ODM is Mitac. Base price is around $1800. Tricked out its about $2600. Video is unfortunately only ATI 9600 with 64 MB. But still, not bad. You can also get this same machine from other OEMs for varying prices.

The thing with Sager notebooks is that you can get them from many many different places, so you might have some options in terms of financing. In regards to pretty colors... PC Torque also offers paintjobs... some real nice ones too.

well, looks like im prob going to get an alienware (i cant decide between blue and green though) sagar is too expensive, well just as expensive but without financial help and the colors cost A LOT. Alienware supposively has top-notch customer support to so thats good... im looking at a 4000 dollar one...3.4 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, not sure what video card to get; help me on that one plz, Creative SB sound card, 2 60 GB 7200 RPM harddrives, etc
by the way: what are phases?

4,000??? why???

WHy dont you spend 2000 now, then throw it away in half the time you would normally and buy a 2000 dollar one later, overall you'd get better performance.

Phases are what you could call steps till you recieve your notebook. Once you order you will be in a certain phase and then as time progresses and your notebook is made, you will be in another phase...and thus it goes on.

In regards to the graphics module... go with the best, the 9700. No point in wasting all that money (4000) and not getting the better graphics module.
Sorry to hear that you couldnt find a place to help you with the Sagers.... but tell me. What kind of help did you need exactly?

This may well be the first time I heard of anyone thinking AW is an equal or less expensive option than Sager. Am I missing something somewhere? Did AW have a massive price drop?

OK just to see what was going on here... I configured a 5690 which I believe is the closest thing Sager has to being a competitor against the Area 51m2 of AW.

P4- 3.4
1GB Ram 400-DDR Dual Channel (AW doesnt have this)
ATI 9700 128mb
x2 60GB 7200 Hard drives
UXGA Screen
Blue/Red Chameleon Paint (beats AW paintjobs anyday)

All for 2983.76

Care to explain how you managed to get the Sager and the Alienware both at 4000?
