nope. Actually, it's bigger According to the article, there are 2 versions: one 17" version and one 18.4" version (the one that comes with the 4870)

Yeah I figured it was big when someone said it could double as a George Foreman grill.

well, dell isn't updating its high end gaming computers anymore so it was bound to happen

Goto www.ap.dell.com and spec a 1730. you now get an option for a 9800M GT SLI and a 9800M GTX SLi. and they appear to be one gig cards. so 2 gig total of video ram.

How's that for an update?
Looks like the 1730 just made itself a new crown.

wow, knew that was coming with the last bios, so now my 8800's are obsolete....
now to wonder. will someone take the 9800M GTX bios and put it on a 8800M GTX. half the ram, but the gpu's are the same other wise. open it up a bit. see what happens?
im sure it will be tried at some point...

I just went to dell web and there was no option to configure the 1730 with a 9800

Nevermind.. I just found it!

so does it need a 300 watt brick now lol
Wow, the U.S Dell no longer has the 8800 Sli as an option!

lol

Has anyone seen a slightly smaller like 17" form factor single 4870 or nvidia equivalent release out there

Shoot, a single desktop 512 4870 power level mobile card would be more than enough, and still be portable enough
post #16 of 17
Wow. Slowly closing the gap between Desktop and Laptop eh? Now if only the prices would start to get better.

i think dell is starting to phase out the 1730 so deals might come soon. the upgraded gpu seems a little stupid to me without a chip set upgrade, the fsb will be the bottleneck
