t61p: Upgrading to 8GB (2x4GB)

Thread Starter
After running out of Window Handles for the last time on 32-bit Vista, I've decided to upgrade to 64-bit and go all the way up to 8GB RAM since I remember seeing some blog posts about the t61p being able to operate with 2x4GB SODIMMs back in the middle of 2008.

I went to check out pricing and found that Crucial sells a 2x4GB kit for $525. I was about to order it when I found that there's another company, Memory-Up.com, selling "Black Diamond" 4GB PC2-5300 sticks for just under $200. The catch seems to be that they are selling them for specific laptop models, none of which are my t61p.

So, my question is ... has anyone tried this Black Diamond brand memory? Are they really specific to a particular model?

I've always been able to use generic SODIMMs in any of my laptops. Haven't had to use model/brand specific memory in years.

The "Black Diamond" specs do say that they are specifically catering to the HP EliteBook.

I recommend giving them a mail or a ring. 200$ is much more attractive for the upgrade, for sure
