Need to install vista sp1 for software.....can i install with no battery detected?

I will try to make this short and understandable......

I bought a XPS M1330 iwth Vista Home Premium Bios A07 in January 2008.

April 2008 I tried to install updates and it messed up my Microsoft Office 2007 so I got it back working and did not mess with anymore updates.

Around June 2008 I started having the notorious battery issues. The battery ran down while I was on it and the battery has never worked since. At first it said connected, but not charging but then it eventually died while I was trying to fix the problem and now it says battery not detected and it says the ac adapter is not recognized (I have the original AC adapter sent with the computer). The computer runs fine as long as it is plugged in with the AC Adapter.

I am trying to install Photoshop CS4 and one of the system requirements is that you need Vista SP1 or higher.

I have been "googling" trying to figure it out and I know I have to download certain things to make the sp1 update show in windows update or I can update manually but IF I do update to Vista SP1 would I have to update my BIOS as well? I have seen that you cannot update a Dell BIOS with the AC Adapter only and I do not want to attempt the Vista SP1 update if I have to do that. I am currently on the BIOS A07.

Sidenote: Unfortunately I am out of warranty (due to procrastination) so I do not think I am going to be able to fix (right now at least) my problems with the ac adapter/battery, so I will just continue using it as a desktop.

You should be able to do the Service Pack update, it does not require that you update your BIOS, unless Dell has specifically said you require it due to some known Bug.

I am not aware that Vista SP1 requires a BIOS update, unless it is specifically stated by the laptop manufacturers themselves.

A quick check on the Dell site reveals nothing of the required BIOS update if users upgrading Vista with SP1

cheers ...

Thanks to both of you very much.

If you're under warranty you might want to look into getting that AC Adapter not recognized issue fixed.

But no, vista SP1 does not require a BIOS update.
