External monitor problem.

Hi there, I have an Acer 5570z. I plugged in a LCD monitor to my laptop, it comes up bright then goes very dim. I can still see stuff, but it's very dim. I've tried contrast, etc (settings from the monitor itself).

If it is a backlit problem, wouldn't the monitor not get bright in the first place?

I've also tried a different cable with the same result. Perhaps a setting with the laptop? The laptop's power supply is plugged in basically 24/7 also.

Sounded like the external LCD is failing. Can you plug it to another comp to verify?

indeed, the laptop provides no power to the external monitor. sounds like the monitor is failing.
