Your LCD inverter is probably bad. Cheap and easy to replace.

I just found using just only the battery works good everything works, laptop boots up all the way to windows ,but if i use just the power cord and take off battery goes dead again the only way it works on the power cord alone is plugging in the vga external monitor.. ....

Thanks...would it still be the inverter even tho the lcd creen works perfect on battery and no vga intalled?

1. So LCD works only on battery?

2. LCD works with battery and AC?

3. Battery goes dead with AC on?

cheers ...

I am guessing that this is a "power" issue, motherboard related, not an LCD issue at all. based on the fact that you are getting no hard drive, lights, or anything...this does not sound like anything to do with the inverter.

I think that when you plug in an external monitor and it boots up, it is throwing folks off track.

That it runs fine on battery power alone, leads me to suspect that there is an issue somewhere on the mainboard, likely to do with the AC conversion.

ryant, I was talking about the AC conversion within the laptop, not the "power brick". I still suspect that it is the circuitry on the mainboard itself. It may be just the input jack, but based on your description of what is happening, I am afraid that it is more likely the motherboard itself (I hope that I am wrong)

Looking like you have a short within the power jack, when you tried to straighten it out.

cheers ...
