Mobile Celeron 1.5/256 -v- Pentium 4M 1.8/512 (both 478pin 400fsb Northwood)

Thread Starter
I have a Toshiba 1115-s103 w/Mobile Celeron 1.5/256 and have it disassembled since replacing 20gb hard drive with 160.

These cpus are very cheap and for about $10 I can do the upgrade.

I was thinking that the 2.0 Celeron may be the choice. For one thing the 2.0 is a 32w and the 1.8 P4m is a 30w (as are all the other choices for this laptop).

I tried to find comparisons in Tom's but there just weren't any. I did see a comparison where a non-Mobile Celeron 1.3 outperformed a Celeron 1.8 because the 1.3 had more cache - so I know cache is important. But then on the other hand, its all about clock speed.

My application is number crunching scientific.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Moving from a celeron to a pentium equal or greater in speed is always a plus, if the cpu fits and no BIOS update requirement is being needed.

cheers ...
