Free video recording software?

Hello, i just bought an acer extensa 4630z and it has a built in webcam and mic. It only came with software to take pictures but not video, im wondering if there are any good free programs out there that i can use to record myself on my laptop and have it save to my hard disk. I have done a decent amount of searching the web for one and they all seem to cost money. I know there has to be one out there.

Video Lan Client (VLC)

www.videolan.org

Should be able to capture the webcam and audio stream without to much problem going off memory.
