Screen Brightness on Vostro 1500

I have a Dell Vostro 1500. While working on a Ispiron 1525 I noticed how much brighter the screen was than my Vostro. I had the brightness turned up all the way on both notebooks. But the screen was noticeably brighter. The Inspirons resolution was 1280x800 or something along that line. My Vostro is 1680x1050.

I'm including a link to the image that I took of them side by side.

Thanks,
Greg

I think it could just be a variation in brightness because of different manufactures. What about your contrast are those equally adjusted?

It does look as thought something is amiss with the Vostro's backlight. If you're under warranty it couldn't hurt to ask Dell to replace it.

No way to adjust the contrast on here. It isn't under warrenty. I bought it from their outlet store and that was about a year ago.

You think maybe Dell knew that the LCD was bad and that was why it was retured to Dell and resold in their outlet store?

Thanks,
Greg

I don't think so. Anything that's shipped to a customer and then later returned gets refurbished meaning someone checked it out. Previously ordered new means the order was cancelled before the system was shipped out.

Outlet systems carry the same warranty as their brand new counterparts and if memory serves me, Vostros get a 1 year depot warranty standard. Might want to check out your warranty status on Dell's support page.

I had a vostro 1500 with 1680x1050,and it wasn't that bright like your's,in fact just about every dell supplied WSXGA I've had has been quite poor,if I remember correctly, both the lower resolution V1500 screen's had superior nit and contrast rating's to the WSXGA.

you could also check out the settings for digital Vibrance. Right click the desktop, left click "personalize" > display settings > Advanced Settings > GeForce 8xxxM GT, >Start the NVIDIA Control Panel, >Adjust desktop color settings> Digital Vibrance. Move it up to your desired level (i usually use about + 10%. hope that helps
