| Poll May Reveal Future PSP Plans Trophies, Home, and more could come to the PSP. By Steve Watts, 01/15/2009 PSP Fanboy reports that a Sony consumer survey may hint at future plans for the PlayStation Portable. While most of the poll responses are fairly standard, asking if people want better battery life or faster load times, a few stand out. Questions involving a touch screen, GPS navigation, a music download service, and Internet access from anywhere hint at Sony having its eye on competing with the burgeoning iPhone success. Other questions, asking about interest in Friends lists, Home and chat functions, and Trophy support, all imply that they may be seeking to further link the PlayStation 3 and its little portable sibling. Many of the specs would involve new hardware, and while Sony has recently denied rumors of a PSP2, there's no reason these couldn't be coming with the next upgraded models. The PSP-2000 and 3000 have proven Sony is no stranger to hardware revisions. The other features could come with a simple firmware upgrade, especially since the PSP can already share logins with the PlayStation 3. Of course, a poll doesn't guarantee that these features actually are coming, it simply gauges public interest. If the pollsters respond particularly strongly to a feature, it's a likelihood it will happen, but otherwise don't take this as a confirmed upcoming feature set. |
